Beers and Ideas - Economics in the Pub with Barbara Pocock and the Australia Institute
South Australia, let’s talk tax!
Taxation shapes the society we want to live in, but too often the decision of how and who we tax — or do not tax — is shaped by vested interests, rather than what is best for most Australians.
We are in a cost-of-living crisis and, as the pandemic showed, public services and government support are crucial in addressing the needs and challenges of a modern society.
With the $20bn Stage 3 Tax Cuts set to come into place in July 2024, and windfall profits continuing in several key sectors of the economy, the time has come for a conversation about how we collect revenue, strengthen our public finances, and create a fairer society for all.
Join South Australian Senator and the Greens’ Spokesperson for Finance, Employment and Public Sector Barbara Pocock, in conversation with The Australia Institute’s Senior Economist Matt Grudnoff and SA Director Noah Schultz-Byard at this special event.
