✍️ SIGN: Demand the WA Government rejects Woodside’s proposal

The WA Government is on the verge of approving a 50-year extension of Woodside’s massive North West Shelf new gas export project, which would result in over 4 billion tonnes of emissions.

New Australia Institute research shows as well as wrecking our climate, Woodside will take our domestic gas to feed its exportsinstead of supplying gas to Western Australia.

This will drive up your energy bills as well as destabilise WA’s domestic gas market.

It means higher profits for gas corporation Woodside, and higher energy bills for WA homes and businesses.

The WA Government needs to know that the people of WA don’t support this project.

Can you sign the petition demanding WA Premier Cook reject Woodside’s North West Shelf extension?

MORE INFO

Australia Institute analysis shows that Woodside’s North West Shelf (NWS) Extension proposal represents a major threat to WA’s domestic gas market.

Woodside has not identified sufficient new gas supply to meet the export capacity of the LNG facility. The resulting shortfall could see further WA domestic gas diverted to export markets.

Once the eastern Australian gas market was connected to the world export gas market, domestic gas prices tripled on the east coast.

Key findings:

  • 90% of the gas processed in WA is either exported as LNG or used in LNG export processing.
  • The NWS proposal would extend operation of Australia’s largest LNG facility for 50 years.
  • The NWS facility’s export capacity is more than double the state’s domestic demand and is seeking approval without any approved new offshore gas supply.
  • All previous WA LNG projects have identified supply sufficient for their export capacity.
  • This situation of un-supplied LNG export capacity gives Woodside a huge incentive to export more domestic gas supply and destabilise the WA gas market for decades to come.

To the Hon. Roger Cook, Premier of Western Australia –

Woodside’s North West Shelf gas export extension will hurt both the climate and the people of WA.

Woodside’s own documents show it will wreck our climate, adding around 4.3 billion tonnnes of emissions to the atmosphere.

Australia Institute research has found it will also drive up energy bills for WA households and businesses.

The WA Government should put the interests of its people over the profits of gas corporations like Woodside.

We call on the WA Government to reject Woodside’s proposal.
