The HV Evatt Memorial Dinner is an annual dinner commemorating the life and achievements of Herbert Vere Evatt. Previous speakers of the event include Professor George Williams, Julian Burnisde AO QC and Tanya Plibersek MP.

This year’s, the guest speaker will be Dr Jim Stanford, director of the Centre for Future Work at The Australia Institute, speaking on the topic Building a New Common Sense: Foundations for Changing the Discourse. 

Jim Stanford is one of Canada’s best-known economics commentators. He served for many years as Economist and Director of Policy with Unifor, Canada’s largest private-sector trade union (formerly the Canadian Auto Workers), and is the Harold Innis Industry Professor in Economics at McMaster University. He was a founding member of the economics panel The Bottom Line on the Canadian Broadcasting Commission’s flagship television news program The National, writes a regular column for the Globe and Mail, Canada’s major national newspaper, and is the author of Economics for Everyone: A Short Guide to the Economics of Capitalism.
