✍️ PETITION: Fix Australia's Gas Export Problem
Australia has a gas export problem.
Australia Institute research shows 80% of Australia’s gas is exported by multinational gas corporations, who then tell us we have a gas shortage.
The gas industry uses more gas just to run its export terminals than the whole of Australia uses for electricity or manufacturing.
Gas production has tripled, and gas prices tripled too.
Multinational gas export companies get over half of the gas they export from Australia royalty-free, yet the Treasury Department says they have never paid Petroleum Resource Rent Tax.
Australians are tired of rampant gas exports driving up power bills for Australian households and businesses.
Australians are tired of the gas industry not paying its fair share of taxes and royalties.
Australians are tired of endless excuses from governments who fail to stand up to the gas industry.
Big gas is taking the piss and Australian governments are letting them. It has to stop.

Political Leaders on Australia's Gas Export Problem
Chris Bowen MP, Federal Energy Minister: “People say we have plenty of gas in Australia and that is true, a lot gets exported.”
Peter Dutton MP, Opposition Leader: “…there’s gas already, obviously, that is being exported, but it’s not contracted to do so under the foundation contracts… We don’t need to rely on new gas wells, there is gas there now.”
David Littleproud MP, Nationals Leader: "“Australian gas should be able to be used by Australians first… we do have an abundance of gas.”
Adam Bandt MP, Greens Leader: “Let’s just stop the big gas corporations from plundering the domestic market… and then pretending there’s a shortfall that has to be filled.”
Senator Pauline Hanson, Pauline Hanson's One Nation Leader: “Australia has enormous reserves of gas… and Australia is one of the world’s largest gas exporters.”
Senator Jacqui Lambie, Jacqui Lambie Network Leader: “When you look at all the gas that we export overseas its absolutely phenomenal. You have to ask why we have this much gas we’re exporting, and why we’re not getting our gas cheaper.”
Senator David Pocock, Independent ACT Senator: “Well, we know we don’t have a gas supply shortage. We have a gas export problem in Australia.”
Australian governments are meant to represent the interests of Australians, not multinational gas corporations.
Australia has a gas export problem.
It has to stop.
We call on the Australian Government to:
1/ Stop unrestricted gas exports.
2/ Reduce Australian domestic gas prices with uncontracted gas.
3/ Make gas exporters pay their fair share of taxes and royalties.
4/ Approve no new gas projects.
