Gas: The Facts Katherine
Cut through the spin and find out what fracking really means for Katherine.
FREE, but registrations essential!
The Australian and NT governments have given billions of dollars in subsidies for the benefit of foreign owned gas companies.
Imagine if just a fraction of that money had gone to solving the Katherine’s youth crime crisis, built a community youth centre, supported FASD treatment, created a water park and developed good long-term jobs for young people.
Subsidies to assist gas corporations make even less sense given the NT gets virtually no revenue from the gas industry. In fact, NT drivers pay 30 times more in vehicle rego than the gas industry pays in royalties or petroleum tax?
At this event, the panel will discuss:
- How much revenue does the NT get from the gas industry?
- Will gas development really create jobs in Katherine?
- How will fracking effect prices, rents and small businesses?
- Where does the gas go?
- The opportunity cost of fracking subsidies?
- What are the impacts on water and health?
