Gas: The Facts Palmerston

Thu, Aug 08, 2024 6pm ACST Palmerston Game Fishing Club

RSVP Below

Are you concerned about the health and environmental impacts of an enormous petrochemical hub on Palmerston’s doorstep?

Maybe you think it’s worth the risk?

Cut through the spin and find out what this gas mega-project really means for Palmerston and the Territory as a whole.

FREE, but registrations essential!

The health and environmental effects of petrochemicals are well documented, but people often believe there are benefits that make it worth the risk.

What many people don’t realise is that the NT gets virtually no revenue from the gas industry.

In fact, NT drivers pay 30 times more in vehicle rego than the gas industry pays in royalties or petroleum tax?

The vast majority of gas in the NT is exported overseas. Yet Inpex and Santos pay nothing to the NT Government or the Federal Government for the gas.

At this event, the panel will discuss:

  • What is planned for Middle Arm?
  • How petrochemicals and fracking impact your health?
  • Potential impacts on tourism and fishing.
  • How many people does the gas industry employ?
  • How much tax and royalties does the gas industry pay?
  • How much of the NTs revenue comes from gas?
  • How will the Middle Arm gas hub effect prices, rents and small businesses?
