Integrity in Politics: Public Forum
As Tasmanians prepare to head to the polls on March 23, integrity, transparency and accountability in politics are front and centre of public debate.
Yet Tasmanians will go to another election without knowing where politicians get their money, without truth in political advertising laws, and without an anti-corruption body that is fit for purpose.
Last year, Parliament passed long awaited but limited political donations disclosure laws – which the Government failed to proclaim in time for this election. Even when those laws do come into force, Tasmanians are set to pay one of the highest rates of public funding for election campaigns with the poorest oversight of donations received.
Join our expert panel on 5 March at 5.30pm for public forum on integrity in politics – and what it means for the upcoming Tasmanian election.
Panellists:
The Hon Meg Webb is the Independent Member for the seat of Nelson in the Tasmanian Legislative Council.
Roland Browne is a lawyer and transparency advocate.
Bill Browne is the Democracy and Accountability Program Director at the Australia Institute.
Eloise Carr is the Director of the Australia Institute Tasmania, and will MC the event.
FREE to attend, but registration essential.
