Australia exports around 80% of our gas - and giving most of it away for free, while also claiming there is a gas shortage.

More than half of Australia's gas exports attract zero royalties, while nurses and teachers pay more income tax than the oil and gas industry pays in Petroleum Resource Rent Tax.

The Australia Institute research shows voters across the political spectrum overwhelmingly support a 25% tax on gas exports, which could raise an estimated $17 billion in revenue each year. Yet the Australian Parliament has failed to act.

So why hasn't Parliament acted? And what would it mean to put the question directly to the Australian people?

Join The Australia Institute's Co-CEO Leanne Minshull and Cheek Media Co.'s Hannah Ferguson to unpack the case for a national plebiscite on a 25% gas export tax, what it is, why it matters, and how ordinary Australians can force the issue onto the parliamentary agenda.
