Politics in the Pub: Andrew Leigh
Join us for Politics in the Pub with Andrew Leigh MP, Assistant Minister for Competition, Charities & Treasury, and Member for Fenner, where he will be discussing Reconnecting Our Community: The Task Ahead
If you are unable to join us in person you can watch the live stream here:
Over recent decades, Australians have become less likely to volunteer for community groups, join organisations and play team sports. As inequality has risen, community connections have frayed. Australia has increasingly become a nation of “me” rather than a country of “we”. Turning those trends around will require a national effort – bringing together charities, philanthropists, government and the private sector. The task is big, but the prize is worth working for: a high-trust community committed to serving the common good will be wealthier, healthier and happier.
Andrew Leigh is the Assistant Minister for Competition, Charities and Treasury, and Federal Member for Fenner in the ACT. Prior to being elected in 2010, Andrew was a professor of economics at the Australian National University. Andrew is a past recipient of the Economic Society of Australia's Young Economist Award and a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Social Sciences. He has been a member of the Australian Labor Party since 1991.
