Drilling for oil in the Great Australian Bight is a high risk, low reward proposition for South Australia. The Australia Institute's research shows it is environmentally damaging, makes little economic sense and is no fix for fuel insecurity. No wonder it is so unpopular, with a growing social movement to Protect the Bight.

But are South Australians inadvertently supporting this drilling with their money? Can South Australia prosper without fossil fuels? How can South Australia support alternatives? As the global movement for fossil fuel divestment hits $11 trillion, what can SA universities, councils and individuals do to align their money with their values?

Join us for a special politics in the pub hosted by The Australia institute in Adelaide on Wednesday 25 September.

Hear from two former Environmentalists of the Year - Peter Owen and Tom Swann – as they discuss all of the issues surrounding the contentious plan to drill for oil in the Great Australian Bight.

On the panel
Peter Owen: Director, The Wilderness Society South Australia
Tom Swann: DivestInvest Australia Lead, The Australia Institute

Hosted by
Noah Schultz-Byard: SA Projects Manager, The Australia Institute
