Tasmanian Ocean Summit 2023 - Expression of Interest
The Australia Institute is hosting a second Tasmanian Ocean Summit, on Friday 17 November 2023, at the Spring Bay Mill, Triabunna.
The Summit will focus on Tasmania’s opportunity to lead states’ engagement in Australia’s new ocean paradigm. It will be a day-long gathering and include panel sessions, keynote presentations and opportunities to connect and collaborate. It will engage marine communities to achieve a thriving future ocean for all Tasmanians.
Recent developments in Australia’s Ocean management put current Tasmanian marine reforms in a new context. Tasmania is reviewing its main marine law, the Living Marine Resource Management Act 1995, for the first time in 28 years. Other marine reforms are ongoing. The ideas discussed at the Summit will contribute to Tasmanian marine policies, as well as to Australia’s Sustainable Ocean Plan - Tasmania has an opportunity to lead the way states contribute to its development. With dual biodiversity and climate crises, building resilience in healthy oceans is more urgent than ever.
